Shuichi โ Acceptable Use Policy
Shuichi has no accounts, no cloud storage of your content, and no social or sharing features โ most of what an acceptable-use policy usually governs (user-generated content, other users, a hosted service) does not apply. This policy is short because the surface it covers is short: your license key, the few network endpoints Shuichi talks to, and the audio you choose to transcribe.
License keys
- Do not share your key publicly, sell it, or use a key you know was not issued to you. This applies to subscription and Lifetime keys alike.
- Do not attempt to generate, forge, or bypass license verification. Shuichi's license check is a local Ed25519 signature check against a public key built into the app; the only way to make a key verify is to hold the matching private key, which only we mint keys with.
- Do not redistribute a cracked or key-check-patched build of the app.
The update feed and license-issuing worker
- Do not attempt to feed Shuichi's auto-updater a forged or unsigned update. Sparkle verifies every update against our EdDSA signing key before offering to install it; a forged update is rejected, and attempting this against our infrastructure is a security-disclosure matter, not ordinary use.
- Do not send abusive, automated, or high-volume traffic at our checkout webhook, key server (renewal and portal links), update feed, or website beyond ordinary use of the app. Load and denial-of-service testing is not allowed; for other good-faith security research see the Security Disclosure Policy.
Support channels
- Use hello@shuichi.app / feedback@shuichi.app for their stated purpose: support, feedback, and security reports. Do not use them to send unsolicited marketing.
Model downloads
- The Whisper and Parakeet model files Shuichi downloads on your behalf come from Hugging Face and GitHub respectively; do not use Shuichi's download mechanism to abuse those hosts, for example by scripting mass downloads unrelated to normal app use.
Recording and transcribing other people
- Shuichi's dictation and its file-transcription feature (handing the app an existing audio file to turn into text) run the same on-device engine either way. If you dictate or transcribe a recording that includes someone else's voice, getting their consent to be recorded and transcribed is your responsibility, not something Shuichi checks or enforces.
- Laws on recording conversations differ: in some places everyone in the conversation must agree to be recorded, not just one person. Follow the law that applies where you and the other people are.
Consequences
If someone clearly breaks this policy, we may refuse support, stop renewing their subscription key, and decline to issue them new keys. If we stop renewing a subscription, we also cancel it so it is not charged again and refund the part of the current period after the end date, pro rata by days. This does not touch the 14-day refund in the Refund Policy or any right the law gives. A Lifetime key is checked only on the Mac and cannot be switched off remotely (see EULA ยง2), so for those the consequence is forward-looking. We decide these cases one by one and tell the person what we decided and why when they contact us; they can write to hello@shuichi.app if they think we got it wrong.
